The makings of an online store

November 10th. EEEEK! It is just a little over a week away. Junk Revolution's online store will open its doors to customers. It will be a quiet opening. The big "bell ringer" grand opening will come a few weeks later, as soon as I can get all my ducks in a row.

Thanks to friends and family I have help in this endeavour. My good friends Rob and Tieran are building the website one piece of junk at a time. Taylor, my daughter from LA, is in charge of posting product, writing descriptions, fulfilling orders and reordering product. We have been working together on our junk assortment and it has been great fun! (We will be offering both a classic and trend category of junk apparel.)

The pillow pictured above is made by my sister, Karla from Florida. She was working on my ideas for pillows embellished with recycled men's ties and decided to take time out to design bottle cap pillows. I love them!! I have asked her now to do a 20" square as well. We need to rethink the tie thing...I'm sure we will come up with something. She made the tie Christmas tree skirt we featured in Country Home several years ago.

My friend and junking buddy Cammie from Nebraska is crafting bottle cap belts for the website along with a whole bunch of other cool stuff.

Our categories will consist of Classic gear, Trend gear, Make a statement, Accessories, Home, One-of-a-kind, & Seasonal. We won't have everything up on the 10th, but will continue to add every week.

Tieran, Taylor and I design all the exclusive T-shirt designs. This one is for fellow bloggers!

Have you ever looked up the definition of Junk?

In between shooting and designing I made a quick pick-up of Pie plate thing-a-ma-jigs from artist Suzanne and her daughter Rachel. I need to shoot soon, and was hoping you could help.

I want to shoot them for the winter season and am not sure what would look the best. They would be great planted with wheat grass, a chocolate bunny, and eggs for Easter, Gourds and mini Indian corn for Autumn, add a check napkin and fill with brownies for a summer picnic...you get the idea. If you have some fun winter ideas for my upcoming photo for the online store, please share.

My guest bedroom is officially a photo studio, much to husband's dismay. I will continue to give you sneak peaks of the process. If you have some ideas of things you would like to see in Junk Revolution's online store...here's your chance. Let me know!

Peace,
Ki

  1. I love the pie plate thing-a-ma-jigs, I'll take them all! Paper white would look wonderful in them and they will grow in the most dismal conditions. November 10th can't come soon enough!

  2. Those pie thingies are cute. What about an arrangement with mercury glass finials. Or even regular junkey, metal or wood finials, but for Winter, Christmas I like the Mercury glass idea.

  4. Those pie-plate-thingies are really neat, and so versatile! My vote is Christmas! You could do pretty Christmas cupcakes or cookies, Christmas greens & red carnations or vintage Christmas balls? Red cranberries surrounding a white candle? I can't wait to see what you come up with! Karen

  5. I love the pie plates! How about a hot cup of cocoa with marshmallows alongside some yummy brownies or homemade cookies placed on a thick white napkin. Wow, I must be hungry!!

  6. How about a stack of smaller old books...like a Shakespeare series or any themed books would do. The colors of the old book jackets would look great w/ the patina of the old wire. I missed being a part of Junk Bonanza this year as I had a brand new baby girl at the end of August. I heard wonderful comments from all my friends who attended...way to go! Wondering if you'd be interested in journals made from old books for the junk revolution site...the ones we had at the Junk Bonanza last year flew out of the booth(we had the booth across from Cammie and I think she may have purchased one?). I am really enjoying your blog and can't wait for Nov. 10th!

  7. Sooo cute! How about a little Charlie Brown type Christmas tree planted in a rusty tin can, or some flowering bulbs, or a big moss ball, or even a big pine cone sitting on top of moss.
Or how about an old post card stuck into a frog. Or a cute little electric candle light.

  8. I LOVE the pie plate idea!! For the Holidays I think the plate should hold a mixture of junk and Xmas ornaments and greenery.

  12. These are so neat! They would make great totes for homemade goodies in clear cellophane bags sitting atop white softener salt. Would they be the right size for homemade bread from a bread machine,...presented as a gift with homemade jam? I would use mine as a tote for ribbon, tags, tape and scissors for Christmas wrapping. They remind me of bird cages,...how about a gift presentation for a bird lover including bird seed, bird book, binoculars, etc. Thanks for your continued inspiration. Lisa (Nostalgia Gal)
