The One That Got Away!

I stood patiently behind a 30-something & rather good looking guy as he negotiated for the vendor's best price on this amazing hotel sign. I kept quiet and waited cause I knew the minute he hesitated, I would raise my hand and shout SOLD to the gal in the olive army jacket!

I didn't get the chance. He too, couldn't pass it up. I doubt that he knew I was waiting in the wings to snatch it up. If only I had gotten their 5 minutes earlier.

Despite the hotel sign mishap, it was a great day to be shopping the Rose Bowl flea with my Minnesota Junk Bonanza team. Check out the Bonanza blog for more pics of our weekend.
I can bet you have a story about the one that got away...have you gotten over your disappointment?
Cheers,
Ki

  3. What a shame about the sign. It was a nice find. I don't have many "got away" finds...but I was one of the people who grabbed up an item first, hehehe. I was flea marketing a while back and asked a seller how much they wanted for this gigantic framed poster of Billie Holiday. The answer was $5, which was pretty affordable given the size of it and the frame. Turns out some guy had just asked about it "was going to think it over and come back." I ran into the seller later in the day, and he did actually come back to get it.

  6. Once at a flea market, I noticed another buyer with "my stuff" in her arms! Well it really wasn't my stuff -- but, well -- it was my kind of stuff. I quickly worked my way ahead of her route -- determined to get "my stuff" before she did!

  9. Aw, man! What a great sign! I know the feeling well. But it's happened to me so many times, I don't remember many of them any more. But then I've been the one doing the getting with someone lurking behind me, too. So it all works out.

  11. Oh that was a great 'almost' find.
Mine was a vintage theatre poster from the 101 Dalmatians movie...it was almost 10 feet tall. The other bidder just had deeper pockets.

i carried a glass battery case on my lap on a flight from k.c, missourri to slc, utah. got off the plane, handed it to my husband who then dropped it. come to find out, for some reason, there are no battery cases in utah to be found. i've looked for one ever since!
