As I was unpacking boxes this weekend I ran across a hairnet still in its original package.Vintage copy always makes me smile. Okay, I get The Final Touch of Loveliness, although I am reluctant to think that even back then a hairnet was considered lovely. What I don't understand is the tag line Human Style. Does that mean they made other styles, and if so, for who? Farm animals? Family cats? Aliens?
The front of the package may be a bit confusing, but the guarantee on the back is very clear. Don't see too many companies these days guaranteeing their product to be Perfect!
Would love to hear if you are as puzzled as I am or if you have read any vintage copy that makes you smile!

ReplyDeleteNo idea what "human style" means but it just blew me back to the days of middle school, helping in the cafeteria and having to put on a hairnet - yikes!
ReplyDelete(....I only did it to get free lunch so I wouldn't have to carry that horrible plaid lunch box Mom bought me instead of the cool Snoopy one that I wanted.)

Love that it's 'human style'. I imagine a lady with her net-n-curlers hoovering her oh-so-50s 'houde of the future'... with perchance a hairnetted poodle relaxing in its pink basket..? 'Poodle style'- shaped to fit an entire pooch inside.

ReplyDeleteI've certainly read some current copy which makes me wonder. A recent ad for a clothing company read, "20% off all ladies!" Hmmm...? In regard to the beautiful product you found, I'm picturing a lovely little tabby, circa 1955, poised on a plastic-covered sofa...wearing an itty bitty hairnet...with matching gloves. "The Purrfect Hairnet for your Feline!"

ReplyDeleteThe little old ladies liked having them put on after their hair was done in the beauty salon. I think maybe it was called Human Style because of there being no elastic around the face so it(the net) blended with the hairstyle so it wasn't that noticable. I think they also came in colors, white, blonde, brown, black. And no I'm not a little old lady, but I did work in a salon.
