Halloween Junk Projects

I am not sure what is wrong with me. I have never gotten terribly excited about Halloween. I know I am in the minority as surveys confirm Halloween is the 2ND largest holiday in the USA and growing in popularity every year! With that said, two of my favorite stories for Country Home Magazine were Halloween projects...go figure!

You may remember some of my projects from 2006 & 2008 Country Home.

Grain scoops and pumpkins on display in my rustic shelf made to fit the handles.

My take on Matthew Mead's pumpkinman.

Gardeners burlap, ric rac and license plate letters attached with wire.

A shot of black spray paint, pipe cleaners, and upholstery tack eyes turn vintage Jello molds into scary little critters.

Junk Pumpkins were a smashing success! I got letters and emails from readers all over the country. Families, elementary school classes, and girlfriends, all creating one of a kind junk pumpkins and having a whole lot of fun!

Check out the BH&G website...Seems my Junk-o'-Lanterns continue to live on their website!

Now Matthew Mead ,on the other hand, loves Halloween! You must pick up his new magazine or book. The projects are simple, quick, and not too scary!

It is snowing like crazy in Minnesota today...hope the pumpkins don't freeze!
Peace,
Ki

  1. As Always.... SO COOL!!! Years ago, I did an elementary school project where I gave each kid a pumpkin and hammer. I had tons of junkie stuff laying on the table for them to create a one of kind pumpkin. It was the coolest project with kids that I ever did! They loved it and some of the pumpkins were really scary!

  2. Halloween is not one of my favorites either. I prefer to do fall decorating that can last through Thanksgiving. The weather we have had lately has put me in the mood for Christmas projects.

  3. i like the 'studded' white pumpkins ... just when you thought there couldn't possibly be another idea!

actually, then again ... you ought to see what layla did with a white pumpkin over at 'the lettered cottage' ...

we've had snow these last few days on the canadian prairies ... but nothing that is lasting ... at least so far!

  4. I'm not big on Halloween either. It's Roger's Birthday, so we choose to celebrate his BD instead. I go for the fall decorations too like Bec4. I did enjoy the great pumpkin decorating contest last year though.
Thanks for reminding me of all the wonderful projects you've done through the years.

  7. Ki,

I have to say that the projects are darling! I did a few things crafty things for my Etsy Shop and for Joyworks, the shop that I work in, but I'm not really a Halloween Gal either!

Granted, I get appx 600 kids in our little historic town of Snohomish, and I have an October Birthday, but I am such a Christmas and Easter Gal! I guess we have to draw the line somewhere!!

I DO love the pumkins you did, and I'll do a bit of decor,,,But I'm Already breaking out the Green, Gold and Red Glitter for Christmas projects!!!

    Hugs,
    Shell

  18. Hi there....just popped into your blog and of course, I LOVE it! I'm not a HUGE Halloween fan but over the past few years a lot of really cute fall stuff has been designed. I'm more into the fall instead of "spooky and ghoulish" stuff. Your pics are really great...Happy Fall Ya'll from Houston.

  19. So fun! I made a pumpkin man last Christmas. I had three fairytale pumpkins that were still good at Christmas time so I made a pumpkin man for decor in the house. Here is a photo of him :) > http://healthyhomesteading.com/2011/12/merry-christmas-from-mr-pumpkin-man/
